Dump Truck Operator Training

This course is to provide the participant general knowledge and practical skills necessary to be able to operate the machine under supervision. This is for candidates with little or no experience in operations of a dump truck.

The training objective is:

• Understand their legal responsibilities and duties

• Understand the design dynamics and limitations of a dumper

• Know the procedures for the safe operation of a dumper

• Know the required pre-start checks

• Know the common hazards and accidents associated with dumpers

The Programme will consist of classroom sessions of underpinning knowledge relating to Dump Truck operations, and operation of the Articulated Dump Truck. This program is divided into theory sections and a practical component. The practical exercise consists of maneuvering a Dump Truck through a predetermined obstacle course while performing several functions. It is recommended that the student gain more experience with the Dump Truck under the direct supervision of a competent operator during the training to ensure that he or she are competent enough to take up a job or role as a competent Dump Truck Operator. • Induction to the Machine Operators Manual

Machine Maintenance Checks

• Machine Operation

• Machine Safety Awareness

• Road Travel (where permitted)

• Types and characteristics of materials and loads

• Shut down and securing procedures
